My whole family makes fun of me because of my insane routines with things
when I was younger, I seemed to not be able to keep track of anything. I lost stuff as much as anyone I knew.
I finally learned that routine make everything easier. When I park a car, I park in the same general area of a parking lot every single time. My car keys are in my left pocket or in a bathroom drawer unless I'm actively using them for something. There's no key ring by a door or throwing them on a counter. THey're in my left pocket until I go to bed. The end.
My wallet is always in my right pocket or in the same bathroom drawer where my keys end up unless I'm actively using it.
My phone is in my right pocket too or charging in my bedroom unless I'm actively using it.

Yes, my pockets are always full. Also, I haven't lost keys, phone, or wallet in DECADES. I have a routine and I stick with it.
Whenever I leave a building or enter a building or leave a car or enter a car, I pat my pockets EVERY SINGLE TIME to verify that the bulges are in the right place. I know that if they're ever not that I've lost of the items between that door and the last door I entered or exited. Easy.

I take my wedding band off when I go to bed. I wedge it in the same corner spot on bathroom counter. Every night. I also roll that ring with my thumb every time I pat my pockets. I"ll never lose it.

In my house, there's a spot for everything. Some things may have a couple of spots, but those things are always in those spots.

When I was 25, I lost a pair of glasses when I put them on the hood of my car and forgot they were there when I drove away. I almost never wore glasses so they were easy to forget. I learned right then that I could never ever ever put things on the hood or top of a car EVER. It's too easy to forget things.

So these people who live with me make fun of my strict rules with stuff, but I'm the only person (other than my wife who is just smarter than everyone else and doesn't need my lunacy) in my house who doesn't lose stuff. I find myself searching my house multiple times per day for stuff other people lose.

2 of my kids won't wear pants with adequate pockets. They put stuff in their pockets and that stuff slips out of falls between couch cushions. I'd never wear pants with shallow pockets. That too is asking for trouble.

Venting feels good.

Also, I'm crazy.
