I dont know what it was about my twenties but I was just like your son. Lost phones, wallets, keys, etc. Countless times.

All that seems like a distant memory now. Not sure what exactly made the change for me. Might be a combination of life getting more settled/stable and just growing up, not completely sure, but it's not really a problem anymore. Point being that there may yet be hope for your son.
