An interception doesn't change the calculus of possessions. Their offense got a
possession. That didn't end in a score. Which, is the point of defense. As stated.

BYU's defense was on the field for 880 plays, their offense for 868. That's a difference of 0.92 plays per game.

We had one of the top offenses in the country and still were at a deficit. The defense is the reason.

BYU led the nation in total offense in 1984 and only ran 2.5 plays per game more than their opponents
