There's a difference between taking chances and playing solid base D.
It's really a comment on the 2s and 3s if the staff believes that dropping 8 and 9 on 3rd and short is the best option.

BYU's defense was on the field for 880 plays, their offense for 868. That's a difference of 0.92 plays per game.

We had one of the top offenses in the country and still were at a deficit. The defense is the reason.

BYU led the nation in total offense in 1984 and only ran 2.5 plays per game more than their opponents
