as for erring on the side of punishing....
I'd personally err very far on the punishment side for those who commit rape. I'd probably favor castration plus locking them up for life - not just banning them from campus. But only if they're convicted, not if they're just accused.
I don't know the solution to this problem. The current approach doesn't seem quite right but the solutions people are throwing around are all bad in their own right.
