I can see the concern. But I think BYU really turned away very talented kids from around the country because Rose believed in those three kids. (Frampton isn't a scholorship player and so isn't really a part of this discussion.) Keep in mind that those three guys represent two Utah Mr. Basketballs, 2 5A MVPs, 3 consecutive state titles and a national title. Any of the three could have played anywhere from Arizona to UCLA to Kansas. They could certainly have gone to Utah as well. Kids aren't often that decorated and legacy BYU kids at the same time. At the time, this was viewed less like lazy recruiting and more like crucial recruiting. If any of the three had gone elsewhere, it would have been viewed as a major blow to the future of the program and many would have called for Rose to move on just for letting them go.
