period of time. You can't do that going strict, even with a belt and added weight.
As for the injuries, personally, I saw a lot more guys with knee and back issues from years of Powerlifting. The only regular injuries I have seen from people at my Crossfit gym are skin tears on the palms and bloody knees from box jumps, nothing too serious though.
If you want to take it easy and go injury free, fine, but don't expect maximum results.
