True, but LaVell should have retired five years earlier.

BYU fans were growing restless given that we weren't winning as big as we formerly had and our win/loss record wasn't as impressive as it was in the 70s and 80s. LaVell was getting old and people worried the program was on auto-pilot while LaVell was on the golf course. He didn't seem to have the drive and determination to be good at his job. He had already proven himself. If you can afford to, you need to retire by age 65.
