Having attended several as a shy athletic kid...
I appreciated the gold nuggets of knowledge and technique I extracted. I also enjoyed getting away from family, being surrounded by peers, filling myself with food to the brim, and going to the dances with the other sports camp participants. I attended football and speed and power. I also attended Yewtah's football camp. Both university's mostly know exactly who the legitimate prospects are with a few unknowns capturing the attention of coaches. The rest are bodies to compete and allow coaches to evaluate the legitimate prospects, and they're taught skills in return. I wasn't being recruited, but I loved getting a signed picture with McBride, meeting Whitingham, and Coach Crowton. Utah's football camp at the time was full contact while BYU's was not. I learned better DB techniques at Utah, but better WR techniques at BYU. BYU actually gave me an evaluation, so I knew where I stood and where I could improve. I don't remember all of it, but speed (including my 40) and agility were part of it; so was character (an area they determined needed improvement--most likely because I said to a teammate, "it's only a game" during a 7-7 tournament game that we were getting crushed in). Probably not what they wanted to hear for competitive spirit.😄
