BYU had a fairly robust tailgating scene until
BYU admin quashed it.

First, they effectively banned the practice in the paved lot West of the stadium. We would arrive hours early and enjoy the atmosphere. We had a whole row of tailgaters who would get there 2-3 hours before to set up and make a scene of it. Right where everyone walked in. This went on for a decade. This was suddenly banned. No setting up tables, no setting up chairs. No more using more than one parking space to really make things rock. It was outlawed and we were told “that is now available only in the grass lot.”

So we moved.

Next, they removed the ability to tailgate in that lot. Again, you couldn’t set up stuff that was more than 3 feet from your tailgate. No canopies, no tables, has to be attached to your car.

We protested to the admin.

Next, old Albertsons parking lot was designated.

Next, moved to MC parking lot. You could have your parking spot plus one additional parking spot per car. Better but lame. No open flames, no coals, no briquettes. Had to be gone 2 hours after completion of the game.

At least we had a spot.

Then they moved us to baskin-Robbins lot. ½ mile away. No atmosphere but hey you can have space.
