There’s some info that I can’t share publicly at the time but I can tell you this. Talking with the faculty for the BYU MA in mass Comms, they have told me that the program would be difficult to accommodate for graduate transfers in this situation.
Another faculty advisor I talked to who is a colleague of mine at UC Berkeley said that if the athlete is a legitimate graduate student, who posted decent GRE scores, has decent grades, and a sincere interest in graduate studies, it wouldn’t be a huge issue, but may still be challenging depending on the accommodations required for the student athlete. If they don’t qualify for admission, have no interest in doing the graduate work, and have no interest in completing the degree, it would be a huge problem.
That said, I know there are several programs at each school that would be perfect for this kind of thing. An online, professional degree requiring little involvement from faculty and demanding no resources and no admissions caps would be perfect and I can see this being created and developed more at schools to accommodate this kind of a situation. As of now, this might be a problem if he’s trying to get into a legit research program. If not, it could work out really well.
