And there’s the problem. Ignorance. Assuming that graduate research is a fun
Hobby that requires no investment and can be done at ones leisure after retirement.
Not sure what research you are interested in doing or thinking about, but my research could save lives and has deadlines, reputation, political battles, funding issues, personal philosophical conflicts, balanced with student teaching, and a whole bunch of other things.
The problem with a lot of Mormons is they seem to know a lot about corporate hierarchy and base their ideas of work on manifestations of success in that sphere but have little to know clue about graduate research and academia beyond undergrad as a whole.
