It makes every game, even the lesser ones, mean something. We had really cold, snowy games in November against teams like New Mexico or Wyoming... and still nearly sold out the stadium. If we played those same teams today, under the same weather conditions, as an Independent... we wouldn't have more than 52k in the stadium. There is an appeal to conference play... like it or not... try to discount it all you want... once Conference play begins at the end of September, beginning of November... BYU is a nobody on the college football map.
Playing P5 teams, honestly does nothing for me. The games don't mean anything... I hope we win them... but after the game is over... it's over... it means nothing. It doesn't improve our bowl chances at all other than if we are going to play in a bowl game or not.
If you polled the players... most would want to be in a conference right now.
