I think the better question might be
what helps get to a P5 faster?

With indy, playing a mix of P5 schools (like 4-6 every year) and balancing out the schedule with some mediocre schools and a few slam dunk wins? You can entice recruits with some big games, keep the fans energized, always have a winning schedule.

Or is it better having the ability once again, to compel a P5 invite by proving to be the best G5 school on the field, in addition to all the other strengths BYU boasts — the fan base, stadium, facilities, brand, etc?

I think right now if BYU was in the AAC or the MW and dominating like they did in the WAC era, it would be just a matter of time. The question is...would BYU be that dominant?

I believe they could be and that might be the faster ticket.

Because with the indy schedule, the venues (Knoxville, Madison, the Coliseum) and the teams are fantastic. 4-5 great games per year beats the 2-3 key games we all experienced in the MW days. But the 2-1, or the one-and-done road games in addition to all the other advantages P5 schools have, may make it difficult for BYU to win enough to draw enough attention.
