That win against Wisconsin felt good for us... and got us attention for exactly 5 days... and then nobody cared. In some years... a MWC Championship will take you to a New Years Day bowl game... I guarantee you that they'll be talking about UCF's win over Auburn 2 years ago for a very long long time. Boise States BCS bowl wins are still talk about and mentioned every year. That win over Wisconsin... meant nothing... not anything.
And I dare you to go to Max Hall, or any player who did win one of those Conference Championships and tell them it's nothing.... make sure you have a good doctor that can fix you up afterward.
Simply put... college football is about winning your conference... regardless of how important you perceive it to be. Once our game against Utah is over.... our season is about getting to 6 wins and the 3rd tier bowl game we play in. Independence has little room in the current college football landscape. It's why Notre Dame decided to give up on long standing rivals to align with the ACC... and ND is the only school to have made Independence work. Most Independents right now are newly FBS teams that just moved up from the FCS and are looking to join any conference that will take them.... why? Cause conference play is where you survive. Independence providers your program with nothing.
