I just don’t agree that Kyle is the one hampering the offense. Maybe at the beginning, but I think he quickly realized, as you said, it’s best to pass the reigns over to someone else. I know for Troy Taylor he did this, gave him full control to do whatever he wanted. Until Troy started losing them games with his atrocious playcalling.

You can def blame Whitt for not hiring the right OC, but he really did try. He tried hiring experience (Chow, Erickson), he tried hiring up and comers who would promised to open up the playbook (Taylor, Cheistiansen), and he even tried outside the box hires (a not yet ready Brian Johnson). It just didn’t work. Criticism for hiring the wrong guys is fair.

More than anything, a good or star QB can cover for bad OCs. We clearly really haven’t had a ‘star’ QB since Brian Johnson. We’ve had a string of decent QBs that can sometimes win you a game but more often than not aren’t super reliable.

Regardless, Zach does seem to have that ‘star’ potential. Any Ute fan who disagrees is probably biased. BUT living up to that is another thing...need more data. As well as Huntley not taking another step. He’ll for sure be better than last yr, but can he make an actual leap? Probably not, but it isn’t outside the realm of possibility. He’s pretty accurate, his main issue is he lacks touch, throwing 90 mph zingers on 10 yard crossing routes isn’t doing his WRs and favors. His WRs also had a ton of bad drops...so yeah it isn’t beyond impossible that he actually becomes a top 25-30 qb next yr.

I’ll be rooting for your son! Hope he does really well at Hawaii, will be the only reason I ever watch them play football.
