My dad went to both schools. Sent me to BYU because
quote "he wanted me to go to a good school" and we went to plenty of BYU games while I was there. I wouldn't have called him a die hard fan, he's always loved sports but he was a fan.
Then Utah beat Alabama and he started to get rose colored eyes. He couldn't get over it and wasn't understanding why I wasn't amazed at Utah beating alabama. I was like, "yeah, that's great but it's Utah."
His switch incidentally corresponded with his leaving the church and is now a full crimson member, BYU-hater. He married a VERY BYU family and managed to convert his new wife to Utardom. They've even hosted BYU players at their house and decorated red.
