Is gonna call him out on it and hold him accountable which he doesn't want to face. I'd flush out the real reason with a measured and patient approach.

If he just doesn't "feel like it", I'd be less understanding and a little more harsh. If his mom doesnt cook cause she doesn't feel like it, or you stop driving him around or going to work, maybe he'll see that mindset isn't particularly beneficial to everyone.
