started to really hate it and got busy with so many other things.  Then again, I was more into a different instrument at the time and doing jazz and concert band both.

Here's the other thing I've learned since - it could be the kid is just tired of being stuck with classical training or something.  If my parents had set me up with a jazz piano teacher or something like that, I bet I would have stayed with it longer.
