People act like that was a crappy Michigan team. It was a team that suffered a bunch of injuries during the season

which resulted in losses, but they were fairly intact by the bowl game. They finished in the top 10 in '83 and '85. Also, until the bowl game, Michigan was UW's best win of the season. How ironic that Husky fans were all making excuses for Michigan's struggle right up until BYU beat them, then suddenly Michigan sucked.
