that's a strength that contributes to a potential weakness...
...when QBs tuck and run their field of vision narrows and as they focus on who is in front of them and where their running lane is. Taysom had this problem and ZW too. once they start running they lose sight of open receivers downfield. For every rare big play they make with their legs there are a large number of other plays that go for minimal yards or losses.
Can't remember the last time I saw a BYU QB beat a blitz by quickly dumping it off to his safety outlet until Romney did it in the Boise game. For years mobile BYU QB's instead held the ball and tried to out-run/out-maneuver the blitz. In that particular blitz, Romney read it quickly and flipped it to Lopini Katoa who slipped out into the spot vacated by the blitzer and gained 7 yds on the play. That's a nice pickup that helps move the chains. A big problem we've had with finishing off long drives is our redzone offense. Can't count the number of times on 3rd and long in the red zone, the defense brings the house in an obvious blitz, and our QB takes a sack killing the drive because he didn't pick it up and have a hot receiver to go to.
I liked that Romney was quick in making decisions on where to go with the ball, was quick to get rid of it and then put it in spots with really nice touch where his receivers could go make a play on it. How do we see if he can continue that if we don't let him play? Hall definitely showed he is a nice athlete and a good running QB. Romney showed he's a better QB/passer. I prefer the latter.
