The Bronco obsession is getting a little weird...
I get rooting for the guy, he put in his time and did good things at BYU and left for a more lucrative job - and he is finding success, which is awesome.

But the weird man-crush that many on here seem to have on Bronco has clouded the reality of his time at BYU and the plateau the program was in under him.

Kalani is likely going to end the season 9-4 for the second time, which is the best record BYU has achieved as an Independent aside from 10-3 in 2011, which was an incredibly weak schedule (And the year Utah beat us 54-10) - No question Kalani has struggled to build a culture of consistency and discipline, but most expected there to be a learning curve. He’s been working with an inexperienced staff, more difficult schedules, and tougher academic restrictions.

Bronco is likely going to end the season with 9 wins after back to back blowout losses to Clemson and Bama/Georgia. At UVA he has an experienced staff that have coached together for years, more resources, P5 money, and much lighter recruiting restrictions. Yet he still hasn’t proven to have any higher ceiling than he did at BYU.

Point is, this mindset that things used to be better or that the grass is greener on the other side is just not accurate. Until BYU makes the needed changes and dedicates the necessary resources to support the football program - that 9 win ceiling will remain the same regardless of who the coach is.
