You are seeing what you want to see. Neither of us will change our opinions, so
debating this is pointless. Some of your arguments are a matter of opinion, and I'm willing to accept that we simply see things different. Some of your comments are simply ridiculous.

Are you truly asserting that Bronco appreciated the fanbase? Do you truly believe he was ever grateful to be at BYU? He couldn't help but be salty and disrespectful towards the fanbase, the media, and essentially every time he opened his mouth publicly. I'm an introvert. If anybody understands being uncomfortable under the spotlight, it's me. But that doesn't excuse Bronco from being such a salty, disagreeable person. Do you honestly think everybody in the Utah media and many BYU donors and fans couldn't stand the guy just because? Bronco is an extremely unpleasant dude, and he rubbed just about everybody the wrong way who interacted with him. Even Kyle freaking Van Noy went on the air and criticized Bronco.

The program didn't steadily decline every year after Crowtons recruits graduated? Do you understand the concept of a trend? BYU has been trending down for a decade. I understand that independence has been a large reason for the decline, but Bronco must assume a large part of the blame as well.

Regarding recruiting, I accept that the majority of our struggles are related to our independent status and Utahs P1c memberships. Still...there was a time when BYU simply didn't lose recruiting battles to Utah for in state and LDS kids. Bronco even stated as much in the late 2000s. By the time he quit, the battle was over. His daddy Kyle Whittingham ran circles around him in every conceivable way, and Bronco had no answer, and gave no good reason for a kid to chose BYU over Utah.

I'd really love to see those UCLA and Oregon State offers. Really would. Been reading about them for years.

So 4 years in, you think that Bronco is definitively better than Sitake? What a bizarre statement. Bronco left the cupboards bare. Kalani is clearly on an upward trajectory. BYU is developing depth. We have some incredible wins over the last few years despite a run of injuries unlike anything I can remember. I think we would be smart to hold off on the side by side comparisons. Lets give Kalani 10 years to gauge his abilities. I am very optimistic about his abilities and the direction of this program considering the derth of talent he was left to work with by his predecessor.

I continue to laugh at the idea that BYU football was seconds away from being such down forever when Bronco Mendenhall came riding in on his white steed and saved the day. Ya'll are so dramatic about this. The program wasn't close to being such down. This is just stupid, revisionist history.

Bronco gave us 4 fantastic years. He coached up a group of very talented kids that Gary Crowton recruited. He is an elite defensive coordinator and could have success at any program or franchise at any level. I have praised Broncos defensive mind for 15 years. But as a HC he is extremely limited, and I continue to be grateful he chose to move on. BYU football is in a better position now, and the future is brighter than it would have been if Bronco were still here.
