In the late 90s, yes. He didn't have too many distance fights 86-91, but he
finished every one of them strong. And won every one except for the Buster fight (which was one of the very few fights of that time he trained poorly for).

In all honesty, Ali's training was a bit inconsistent — & he often managed his energy rather than letting his conditioning carry him in the later rounds. He would've had an extremely tough time managing energy against Tyson--who was easily faster than any fighter Ali faced, as well as one the hardest hitters he would've faced. If you watch that Foreman fight (where Ali managed his energy masterfully) — Foreman was an idiot NOT to work his body (his corner was even yelling at him all fight to do so). Even if Ali's ribs & innards could've survived that strategy past round 8, Ali's breathing would've been in trouble if Foreman had simply targeted his midsection like any good fighter with Foreman's strength & leverage advantage would have.
