Paying Rudy 35% of the salary cap is tough. Especially when you’re gonna be paying Mitchell 25%. Conley I believe is technically on a max deal, so you could trade his salary for another max guy. So it’s definitely doable. But then you probably gotta dump salary on your role guys. I just don’t see Utah going into the luxury tax. Maybe for a year or two if they’re a legit contender. But that teams gonna be really thin on the bench.
Who’s the 3rd piece you’d add if you could? An elite wing shooter who can play on/off ball is what makes sense to me. A Paul George type.
Is Mitchell/PG13/Gobert enough to win a title. If Rudy is on a supermax, do you have enough money to fill out the roster with good players? Who is the PG type player that could be available? How would Utah get them?
I just think their options are better if Rudy is making 25 million, not 40. And they’d be better off in the long run letting him walk than paying him 40 per. Has anyone signed a supermax and not had their team regret it at some point. Curry right now, but there’s still time.
