It's very simple
People expect BYU students to live to a higher standard.

Riddle me this: If there are nearly 40,000 UVU students and roughly 30,000 BYU

It’s just stereotyping. They are playing off of BYU’s image as a party school.

Gosh dang it. And TNT could have partied with them. Stupid admissions

Come now, BYU students don't attend parties like that. They do tunnel singing.

Bingo! That's where my son met his wife and where he later proposed to her.

The UVU students are all studying.

Of course they are, they are trying to get into BYU... 😉

It's more scandalous-sounding if they report it as BYU.

9/14/20 4:48pm
bc a BYU student went on the news talking about how he was hosting the parties
MarkWatney
9/14/20 4:50pm
or it's a fake BYU student who really attends a state school

Also, the hair schools & other college age kids who just want to live in Provo

9/14/20 4:51pm
Hair school? Is that just a very flashy, overdone school?

Sounds like a lame sports administration school, where they teach back-stabbing,
Doogal McCougar

the organizer of the party is a BYU student. So that's the main reason

many of the kids at the "young/dumb" parties are high schoolers

iirc, one of the main parties was on provo center st, closer to byu campus and
Undefeated

One is a commuter school and the other isn’t. I would venture to guess that more party-goers are BYU students than UVU
scootsy
9/14/20 7:32pm
Ok. Add in college age kids not going to school and high schoolers and I’d bet

A fraction of the UVU student body lives in Provo while the vast majority of BYU students do live there.
scootsy
9/14/20 7:49pm
B/C BYU students have to live w/in 2 miles of campus.
Soupie
9/14/20 7:53pm
Is this a new rule? I lived all the way up in Highland for a year.
scootsy
9/14/20 7:58pm
Allowed if you live with family.
Soupie
9/14/20 8:01pm
Maybe it’s because I was already married.
scootsy
9/14/20 8:05pm
Yeah, doesn't apply to married students.
Soupie
9/14/20 8:13pm
A big fraction. I recently served in a Provo singles ward and about 60% were UVU students. The ward was about 2 blocks
Rhino84
9/14/20 8:26pm
Are you for real? Do you live out of state?
YSMACK
9/14/20 8:12pm
Agree
Mot
9/14/20 8:34pm
Then you'd be wrong. There are tons of UVU students mixed in with BYU students.
Benfica1
9/14/20 8:46pm
I didn’t say there are none, I said a fraction. And compared to BYU students it’s absolutely the case.
scootsy
9/14/20 8:55pm
Maybe but I had one daughter without a single BYU roommate until her 3rd year & that was her sister. If you spend time
Soupie
9/14/20 8:58pm
I lived south of campus all during BYU and didn’t have a problem finding housing
Delicate Genius
9/14/20 10:53pm
It's changed a lot since then. First daughter started that year and it was very different then than it is now.

9/14/20 11:01pm
Well... you have to expand your imagination. LDS students from all over the country want the traditional “BYU” social
Rhino84
9/14/20 11:37pm
Think UVX has backfired if you're a BYU student.
Soupie
9/14/20 11:49pm
Maybe. Still would be surprised if UVU is higher percentage active LDS now than
Delicate Genius
9/15/20 12:01am
Not higher LDS population. We were talking about how many kids going to Provo parties are from BYU vs UVU
Soupie
9/15/20 12:08am
I agree there is a likelihood that more UVU students attend Provo parties than
Delicate Genius
9/15/20 12:59am
Partying in Provo doesn’t mean they have to live there —- unless going to BYU.
Soupie
9/15/20 1:17am
You do sound a little bitter about it Soupie! 🙂 🙂
Rhino84
9/16/20 7:55am
It's far more than 'a fraction'. But, think whatever makes you happy.

No one said "all" but it's been portrayed as all BYU which is simply not true.
