And it is a LOT harder to monitor than anyone thinks. We have used all the apps
screentime, Google Family, Disney Circle, Open DNS ... they all help, sure, and I'm glad for them. But it is a SERIOUS pain in the butt. We have boomerang to monitor teen's texts ... but the flow of texts is so much that it's ridiculous. And even though we have limits on their phones, they find ways around them.

And the emotional devastation to one of our teens has been heavy. Social media is poison to many teenage girls, they are uniquely wired to be damaged by it and addicted to it. While monitoring is good, and teens often find ways around things, I think it would have been much better to not have laid down and accepted her opening these social media accounts. And to educate, constantly educate, why she should wait until older.

And youth leaders, please don't encourage this. That was one of the hardest things was when youth leaders/teachers/coaches were communicating with the youth through these phone-based means, and so our teens had to have devices to hear what the team, quorum, group was talking about.
