We just don't have the resources or talent to be competitive in the rankings when we lose to teams like UMass, NIU, Toledo and ECU after playing early-season P5 gauntlets. Our current scheduling path does not lead to sustained success...

THIS is what Bronco meant that independence is not sustainable. Of course we can still SURVIVE as an FBS independent, but we will not have any sort of sustained success by overscheduling...unless our recruiting and resources also significantly improve.

I believe that TH believed that our recruiting would improve because we are playing better schedules. I did to. But, it has not...the opposite, our recruiting has been damaged because we lose too many games, especially those that we should win. We need a better balance of marquee and easy-win opponents. It's a difficult balance. Keep and add whatever P5 opponents we can in October and November. But, we need more G5 and less P5 in September.
