Hiring Ty was not the problem. You weren't in the interview with Ty and Zach. Remember that Zach was all over Utah, was looking for a Utah offer, did everything, said everything and gave every impression that UTAH was going to be his place. If you are a coach with limited scholarships to offer and the young man you might think as a little talent is at home sporting a ton of UTAH paraphernalia all over the house, has answered your questions in a way that tells you he's not serious about BYU, then you move on.

Now I am very sorry to disappoint you because a lot of people here think Ty was the problem, when Ty was handed a horribly broken system, crappy talent and told simplify it until we can get you better personnel, then fired after two seasons, well that feeling is on you. Ty was not the problem. That he did not go out and recruit Zach Wilson is more likely because Zach Wilson didn't recruit BYU.

As for Ty being a mistake. That comment is forgivable but ignorance on Ty's abilities, knowledge of the game and how ridiculous it is that Kilani fired him after two seasons - that's just ridiculous. As good as the current offensive staff is starting to look, it has taken them three years working mainly with guys Ty did recruit and who are now post mission juniors and sophomores, to even begin to get consistent play out of them. Ty and remember that.
