Yeah it is true that Kalani went hard after Wilson. But then it's also ....
...possible Ty was many well heeled alumni's choice over Kalani in the first place.

But the comment that no body else hired Ty is just absolute ignorance on your part, perhaps even shameful. Ty did not need BYU. BYU went after him and in a big way uprooted him from a life he really loved. It was his love for BYU that caused him to come out of semi retirement and enter the seriously hard knock world of coaching. His choice was if he ever coached at a truly professional level it would be at BYU. Otherwise, he didn't need it. The two most brilliant QB and offensive minds to ever play football at BYU were not members when they came: Jim McMahon and Ty Detmer. As for 24 months and a fallout w/Kilaniit may be wise to ask...

How much rope have most Coordinators and HC's been given at BYU. LaVell moved a lot of his long term staff into and out of Coordinator positions without firing them. Crowton had 4 seasons and was gone. Mendenhall has eleven years of plateau and tired the fan base with coordinators he took with him to Vieginia and most of this board was, don't let the door hit you on the butt as you leave.

Along comes Kilani who was I believe told he had to work with Ty. Maybe it rubbed KS wrong. But if this was somehow about Ty failing, why was he never allowed to develop his own recruits? Why was Grimes not criticized for huge gaffes and errors in his first two seasons tgat have finally begun to subside? Why is Tuiaki, clearly in over his head, backed and protected by Kalani when in any other program he would have been demoted if not gone after three years?

I'm sorry but no amount of love I have for Kilani (and I do) changes the fact that he really screwed Ty over. It's a human thing, forgivable and perhaps there is no more gentleman that is first to forgive faster than Ty. But there was something amiss in that relationship from the beginning and you cannot think Ty was let go because he thought Zach Wilson was too staunchly a Utah man. Have you not listened to his parents discuss their devotion to Utah? Have you not remembered that for 11 years Bronco preached that players needed to recruit BYU first. Who here thinks coming out of the period of his life Wilson was not wanting the Utes all the way. You weren't there.

I love Zach's play, his passion, and that he came to BYU. But this Zach Wilson was a risk as a junior whose verbal comments about a desire to play college basketball is the heart of what Detmer heard. Saying Zach would have gone to Boise State had Ty remained at BYU is speculation. What we know is, 16-17 year olds say a lot of crap in the egotistical hope that the coach begs. Perhaps Ty's flaw is that he was no beggar and had eyes on others that wanted BYU more.
