That point aside, I think it's clear that Grimes is a better fit and better coordinator. But as far as recruiting, he also got Arod who many said was the top recruiter at the U for many years and Steward and Fesi (All Major upgrades in recruiting).
Ultimately my opinion is Detmer could have grown into a great coordinator. We didn't give him the time (and we really didn't have the time anyway). I believe the mistakes in hiring/philosophy on 2016/17 are hilariously bad and we rectified it with Grimes and his staff-that we were going to be a little more serous on the O side.
