Most of us get that (even if we can't resist a little snark about UW ducking BYU in 1984)

The Pac-12 wants a relevant team, and the Huskies and Ducks are their best shots. BYU is a far better opportunity in that regard than a cancellation/consolation game against the Utes. But the Pac-12 is being difficult because they need to keep BYU in it's place - can't have the lowly Independent seen to be upstaging the conference of champions.
