Washington already did their business in the public arena.

It's a little too late for what you suggest. Them making a statement now would be cleaning up the mess from having done their business in the public arena.

They don't even have to say anything controversial. A simple "Due to the PAC12's current policy, we could not guarantee to BYU that there would not be a last minute change and the game against them cancelled, and they decided not to go forward."
