If he stays in his apt only, his experience would likely not be much different

somewhere else; he can do that anywhere.

I would recommend sticking it out at least one more year to see how different it is once COVID restrictions ease, but more importantly encourage him to get out of the apt.

I've seen with my kids that when they get out of the house, they have a lot more fun....they just need some encouragement sometimes.
