I would encourage him to stick around for another year, and to cover his bases, take classes that could easily transfer to another university. Hopefully things will open back up again next fall so that he can have a more typical BYU experience (games, social activities, intra-mural sports, in-person lectures, etc.). If he is struggling socially, then perhaps you should encourage him to get a PT job that gets him out of the apartment 10-15 hours each week. If campus activities are not happening, then at least he can get a bit of social interaction from a job.
