RE: no, he is started with EE program, but now is very unsure.
Tough situation. Writing is not the answer. Do that in his spare time. Our oldest daughter loves to write, has spent over half of her life writing including two books. She's learned that being a very good writer doesn't equate to being able to make a living, even though she has a very good job now — just not as a writer.

He may not know it but he needs to get out and about.

Are there any EE entry classes on campus right now? I think the first year off EE classes and the accompanying math courses will tell him if EE is really going to be his thing. A lot of first year EE students don't make it when they have a chance to look at what the other EE students around them are doing.

BYU used to have Electronics Technology. Do they still have that?

This is such a hard time to be in college right now. Students really need to be outgoing and self-motivated to stay healthy and positive.
Finding some work and just getting out there doing something away from his apartment may help him clear his head some.

8! No two will be the same. And a few of them will be pure joy.
