Living wages are not about level of skill, paying an employee less than living wages simply shifts the burden from the employer to everyone else. Workers than cant afford housing and food turn to public assistance which then becomes a barrier to them being able to gain skills and wages. Someone on SNAP and using housing assistance has a set limit to how much they can earn before they lose their housing and food assistance so a small bump in pay or hours does more harm than good. Employees of walmart received more $6B of tax payer assistance.
