he made no claim on what the typical situation would be
he gave a personal example and you gave another example to contradict his experience. maybe that's not what you intended, but as a direct response with no explanation I interpreted as claiming he was wrong. if you're married with children at that income a negative tax burden can easily happen. you have no idea what other deductions he or anyone else may have.
