Athletics isn't always about being fast. Dutch are unusually tall (average male
is 6 feet, 3 inches taller than us). Swedes and Belgians are really tall too. This gives them advantages in some sports.

Nordic people tend to have higher VO2 max capacities, which helps in skiing and other things.

Steve Young had a freakish ability to heal from injuries. I would imagine there could be "pockets" of people like Steve Young who had genetic gifts for healing.

Finnish seem to have a genetic ability to withstand pain, particularly with temperature (extreme cold or heat).

There's lots of things besides just speed that could influence athletic ability. And of course it's not all genetics. Genetic potential needs to be unlocked through opportunity, hard work, etc.
