The thing fans lack is context. I’m 100% confident Tuiaki understands his D
needs to get more pressure on the QB and get off the field on third down. Anyone with a basic understanding of football knows this.
A more advanced reading from a fan would tie both of those problems back to not being stout enough in the run game because since Pili went down our other LBs have struggled getting off blocks and filling lanes. This leads to a lot of third and short situations where it’s difficult to create pressure and get off the field. Tuiaki also knows this.
Where he and the fans diverge is that he understands the personnel and schematic limitations that have actually created the problem and under which he has to operate far, far better than the fans do. And that’s where Stevenson is coming from (although it’s ironic because he was a loudmouth “fan” that was always complaining about Bronco).
