I’m a former BYU swimmer, English Channel swimmer, Utah Sports HOF member
and I also coach a HS swim team in my spare time. I agree with above comments that looking at sports from just a revenue standpoint misses a lot. Swimming is an amazing sport and life skill. From many studies, swimmers are the best overall athletes in terms of conditioning.
In the words of Rowdy Gaines, it’s a sport that, while not very popular to watch by the general population otherwise, becomes the most important sport in the world during the Olympics. It’s awesome. It would be a mistake to give that up. Every kid dreams of going to the Olympics. It’s nice that BYU supports Olympic sports.
