Although to be fair, Utah / CU was already approved but were asked to go big. There was already the sense
that A&M was out of play regardless.
Utah was already expecting to come in unless somehow A&M came around.

Bigger problem is if USC and others get wandering eyes for the B1G or SEC

I could see BIG10 but SEC? No- unless it’s one huge conference that spilts again

Yes, and that problem becomes more likely by making decisions that aren't based

I honestly don't think it was anywhere near that nuanced or nefarious

The P12 prides itself on Conference of Champions, all of which are non-football and hoops.

Back to the OP. They thought they could flip that by damaging BYU and funding

The P12 didn't think twice about BYU. Why would they schedule BYU if they were out to get them? I do think the P12

You need to coordinate better with people on your team. I can’t believe they

True, if you're looking non-football, then BYU would have a stronger case. Just figured football drives realignment

$$$$ drives realignment, so football is the engine.

Small regional schools like utah and TCU were never a better fit.

100% this. After OU/TX backed out, CU/UU was the fallback adding new markets

Utah was the fallback, Colorado wasn't. (They may have been seen as the first break in the dam though)

The Big 12 made a huge mistake passing up an ideal, P5 ready BYU. They got it right this time and it was a steal. But

I don't think it's reasonable to suggest that the Pac-12's struggles are permanent and Utah's successes are temporary
