Told a female friend that she was nominated for homecoming court
in an off comment in class in HS, and didn't think much of it because we were seniors and there's typically announcements on voting, etc.

In an assembly a few weeks later, I announced in the assembly about voting for homecoming, etc.

She later come up to me that day and asked if I was joking about it when we were in class previously...and it just hit me like a ton of bricks...uh yeah I was joking...and hello - you've been here for years and know there's a vote, etc....anything to rationalize it my brain that I wasn't culpable. Felt bad...but of course went on my way.

That night I get a call from her Mom who was of Spanish/Basque heritage and in broken English trying to tell me that she bought her daughter a dress and that she was wanting to send her husband to our house to do whatever. I apologized over and over and to this day I can hear her saying "No sorry! NO Sorry!"

We were friends since grade school, and we had a friendly/joking relationship throughout the years - but man - that one sucked. We buried the hatchet and got re-acquainted on Facebook and are still friends...but still regret that to this day.
