BYU opponents were the 102nd "fastest" in seconds per play last year.
That was more of a "problem" with time of possession than the number of plays run. And has been demonstrated innumerable times on this board and elsewhere, time of possession is a wildly overrated statistic when it comes to wins and losses.

BYU's defense was on the field for 880 plays, their offense for 868. That's a difference of 0.92 plays per game.

We had one of the top offenses in the country and still were at a deficit. The defense is the reason.

BYU led the nation in total offense in 1984 and only ran 2.5 plays per game more than their opponents
