Week 13 - #2 BYU (11-0) @ Stanford (6-5)
BYU fans flock to Palo Alto, giving their stadium its first sell out since Andrew Luck's tenure. In a sea of blue, BYU comes roaring out of the tunnel, knowing this is their last chance to leave an impression on the committee. Even with impressive wins against Baylor, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Arkansas, BYU fans worry that with only 12 games they will get disrespected yet again by the committee.
In the first play from scrimmage, Houtson Heimuli trucks 3 different Stanford players on a pass out of the backfield. Not long after that, he rumbles in for his first touchdown of the season. Tanner McKee comes out firing, but Stanford is forced to kick a Field Goal after penalties stall their drive. Jaren finds Nacua deep for a long connection, and Katoa finishes it off with another BYU touchdown. On their next possession McKee overthrows a wide open receiver and Malik brings it in for an INT. On the very next play Chris Brooks breaks down the sideline and muscles his way through a corner for a touchdown, 21-3 BYU. That score would stand at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter Stanford comes out fighting. McKee rockets a few balls into tight windows, and Stanford finds themselves in the endzone, 21-10. BYU fails to answer, and Stanford is on the move again. Now in the redzone, McKee is hit from behind as he's winding up and the ball comes out. In a massive pile, Gabe Sommers runs out of the pile with the ball. Jaren has his best drive of the night, hitting 4 different receivers en route for a touchdown, 28-10. In the fourth quarter Stanford failed to do anything more on offense. With 2:30 left, Kalani begins kneeling on Stanford's goal line. BYU kneels again on 4th down instead of taking the FG, and gives Stanford back the ball with 20 seconds left. BYU fans are livid, feeling a touchdown would have further impressed the committee. Instead, Stanford's RB breaks a 90 yard touchdown run as the clock expires, and BYU wins 28-16 in Palo Alto.
