Basketball occupies such an interesting place in the cultural zeitgeist in that
there are people certain that it has it's peak 30-40 years ago.
It didn't. Players in the 90s were not close to as skilled as players today. Basketball has gone from a largely American sport to a global phenomenon played everywhere. Players start earlier. Work harder. Analytics have changed the game drastically.
Players like Malone and Ewing would struggle to find minutes in the modern NBA. It just is what it is. Nowadays you have to be able to dribble, pass, and shoot. You need to be able to defend all over the court.
I respect the past but thinking those guys were so much better is just nostalgia.

I wonder how good at shooting 3s, Bird & Mullin would have been had they grown up shooting them? Bird was a career 37.6%
