Todays NBA favors skill players like Curry who have full freedom of movement. Bird also came into the NBA the same year the 3 point line was added, so it was new to all the players.
It isn’t true that most of Birds attempts were uncontested. Bird was extremely crafty, so sometimes got open but he got a ton of attention on offense. He was the MVP of the league, so teams were trying to stop him

I wonder how good at shooting 3s, Bird & Mullin would have been had they grown up shooting them? Bird was a career 37.6%
