I find this post amusing
The auto repair business is not DIY.

They aren’t going to find the cheapest part from oversees nor are they running a charity.

Typically parts are from the local auto parts store or OEM. They will have 30-40% markup. Margin from parts typically pay the rent, insurance, etc.

Labor is what it is. That pays the technician and the owner. And I guarantee the dealership will charge more, on average 30% more, easily.

By your same premise:

- Don’t pay a lawyer $300/hr for your next legal matter because of RocketLawyer.com.

- Don’t hire a licensed contractor, because Uncle Billy says he knows what he’s doing.

- Don’t take an Uber from the airport. There’s a guy who says he works for Uber but can’t show his contracted work and wants cash on the side.

- Don’t get those butt implants from a licensed doctor at a care facility when the lady in apartment B6 will do it from home, if paid in cash.

Ok, I digressed a bit. But you get the gist.

Want to save money on repairs?

Watch YouTube and DIY. You’ll have to buy the tools and have a place to do the repair that will be used 2-3x longer than a hired gig.

If you want a mechanic to do it for a low price:

A) have her go to a lower income part of town, with a mechanic whose been in business for 10 years with good reviews. Odds are their shop will not be as fancy as the shop she went to. Probably won’t have good seating nor A/C while she waits. Staff will be friendly. And it will probably few a few weeks before they can get her in.

B) have her drive to a sketchy part of town where they get your “new” part from the junkyard.
