They already have a model for it that works perfectly and brings in a ton of money: It's called March Madness. Auto bids for all conference champs and then a bunch of at large bids.
College football needs to stop getting in it's own way and over-complicating things. The solution is simple and is already market-tested. Give everyone some skin in the game. It works. And it makes a boatload of cash.
Once the sports world experiences the huge fan engagement and boatloads of cash the 12-team playoff is sure to bring, I'm guessing a 16-team playoff will happen, hopefully sooner rather than later.
It just makes sense.
