We did it twice. When my oldest reach Kindergarten age the local elementary was
terrible and our request to transfer was denied. So we homeschooled her that year and put the house on the market to move to a better neighborhood. She did just fine.

And then when one of my sons was in 3rd grade, he had a pretty terrible teacher who kept demanding that we put my son on ADHD meds, and did crazy stupid things like made him stay in for lunch and recess to finish his work (which is the exact opposite of what you should be doing for an active kid who is having trouble focusing). So we pulled him out for the 2nd semester that year and homeschooled him. That helped a lot to be able to give him individual attention and also let him get up and move while he was learning. He went back into school for 4th grade and did fine.
